The Forest and I - Phase 2

How can we help young people reconnect with nature—not only by learning about it, but by experiencing what that relationship can mean for their own wellbeing?

In 2025–2026, UNature Luxembourg, with the support of Oeuvre Nationale, delivered the second phase of The Forest and I, a school-based program combining scientific learning, direct experience in the forest and classroom reflection. Across three Luxembourg secondary schools, 187 students from 10 classes took part in the program.

The results show encouraging changes. After the forest experience, the group’s average nature-connectedness score increased by 19%, while students also reported greater relaxation, calm and positive mood. 96% of the student reflection sheets identified something they had learned, and their reflections and letters revealed themes of curiosity, connection, empathy, wellbeing and a desire to care for the natural world.

Phase 2 also helped prepare the program for its next chapter. Three additional UNature guides were trained in the methodology, expanding our capacity to bring The Forest and I to more schools and across different language contexts.

Discover what we learned, hear from the students themselves, and explore the full results in our Phase 2 Project & Impact Report.
